Located just outside of Lake George, the Gurney Lane and Rush Pond trail systems in Queensbury, NY offer a diverse and well-maintained network of trails for mountain bikers, hikers, runners, and families. Whether you're looking for a technical singletrack ride or a mellow nature walk through wetlands, these trails have something for everyone.

🚴 Gurney Lane Mountain Bike Park

Gurney Lane is one of the best-maintained mountain biking destinations in the southern Adirondack foothills. With over 13 miles of trail, including roughly 11 km of singletrack and 9 km of doubletrack, this park accommodates all skill levels.

Designed and built by Wilderness Property Management (WPM), led by Steve Ovitt — a retired NYS DEC Forest Ranger — the trail system has been thoughtfully constructed to accommodate a wide range of riders while preserving the natural landscape. Ovitt’s work on this and other regional trails, including the Graphite Range Community Forest, has made a lasting impact on Adirondack mountain biking access. Read more about Steve’s work here.

  • Flowy bench-cut singletrack
  • Technical rocky sections and roots
  • Berms, rollers, and a three-tiered skills park
  • Bike repair stand with air pump (sponsored by Rick's Bike Shop)

Gurney Lane also hosts the annual Churney Gurney MTB Festival each August, a family-friendly event that includes group rides, demos, and food trucks.

🌿 Rush Pond Trail

The Rush Pond Trail offers a quieter, multi-use alternative. This 2.6-mile (one-way) trail winds through the scenic Rush Pond wetlands, connecting neighborhoods, schools, and Gurney Lane Recreation Area. It features:

  • Boardwalks and three handcrafted wooden bridges
  • Easy terrain suitable for walking, biking, or snowshoeing
  • Wildlife viewing and peaceful rest stops

The main path consists of crushed stone, making it ideal for walking, running, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing. A network of unmarked singletrack trails branches off from the double-track main path, offering mountain bikers a fun way to explore the surrounding forest.

Dogs are welcome at Gurney Lane & Rush Pond trails, but must be leashed at all times. Owners are expected to clean up after their pets and stay on designated trails. Water stations may not always be available, so come prepared.
