Basin Mountain | Adirondacks

On our Great Range traverse in the fall of 2012, team PureADK hiked Saddleback, followed by Basin, and after a quick stop at Little Haystack, finished with the prominent and remote Haystack. Continuing on from Saddleback, the path continuing on to Basin, #9 at 4,826 ft., started off with a bang.  The trail quickly became steep and required some open rock scrambling – could definitely be tricky with a little rain or ice.  Once down the cliff-like trail from Saddleback, the path to Basin has some neat viewpoints.  There are a number of narrow ledges that have to be traversed, but once you reach the summit, you are struck with an amazing view of Little Haystack and Mount Haystack – our final destination for the day.
