Mentally preparing ourselves for a long day, we left the refuge at 8:30 am and made our way across some remaining snow fields. We followed the trail and groups in front of us up to Tête Nord des Fours. While not planned, we were glad that we went out of our way to hike the peak.

We woke up to a beautiful morning – cool to start, with a few clouds hanging on to the mountaintops. After reading several blogs from people that had skipped the first stage of the Tour du Mont Blanc as described in the Kev Reynolds guidebook {Les Houches to Les Contamines}, we decided to follow suit.

Traveling around Iceland is an experience that we will never forget. The scenery is breathtaking and unique at every turn in the road, and the people are incredibly friendly and so willing to go out of their way to show you what Iceland means to them. Hardly had we boarded the plane when we were already looking forward to our next visit to “Tiny Iceland”.

Ten days, seven valleys, five cols, 2,650 meters in elevation at our highest point, 85 miles, and one grand adventure. Some blood, sweat, and tears, but mostly mud, definitely still sweat, and cheers. The Tour du Mont Blanc (TMB) was all of that and so much more.

This weekend we made the choice to visit the 1000 Islands on the St. Lawrence River, just northwest of the Adirondacks. The day started out overcast, but the skies began to open up nicely in the early afternoon as we approached the Seaway area. Our destination was Ed Huck Marine in Rockport, Canada.
