Cobble Lookout

Cobble Lookout - Pure Adirondacks

Cobble Mountain is a gentle hike through the woods of the Wilmington Wild Forest. Great for families and pet-friendly, this short 1.3 mile one way hike leads to a huge lookout area with 180 degree views. Off to the right you'll see Whiteface and Esther and to the left farther in the distance (on a clear day) you'll see the Jay Range, Hurricane, and Giant Mountain. Down in the valley you'll catch a glimpse of Santa's Workshop and the town of Wilmington.

From the 4-way stop in Wilmington, take the Whiteface Mountain Road (Route 431) towards the Whiteface Mountain Memorial Highway Toll Booth. At the fork in the road, veer right on to 18A that heads towards Franklin Falls. Drive for 0.3 miles (just past Lake Stevens) and you will see the trailhead and parking area for Cobble Lookout on the right.

Keep it PURE

Remember to Leave No Trace! Buy a physical map, read it, plan, and prepare. Think about the NYS Rangers and medical personnel that exhaust themselves for a rescue that could have been avoided. Pack out your trash. Use a bear canister when primitive camping and cook away from where you’re sleeping. Do the rock walk to help reduce the impact on fragile alpine vegetation. Camp at designated campsites and never camp on or near summits.
