A perfect hike for families, Catamount boasts great views and a really fun trail to the summit. There is one section called the “chimney” that kids love – it is brief but steep! Catamount is not near many other peaks, so the view from its summit is unique and not one you see from other, better known hikes in the area.
Cobble Hill’s most redeeming feature is that it is a quick hike with a great view, right in downtown Lake Placid. This makes it a great hike for families, or those without a ton of time looking for something close by.
The Adirondack Loj and Heart Lake are located at the foot of Mt. Jo, a 2876' peak in the heart of the Adirondacks. There are two trails that lead to the open rock summit, a steep but short hike with the reward of a sweeping vista of the High Peaks.
While the Hurricane Mountain Fire Tower was closed for a number of years, efforts to restore it in recent years paid off and as of September 2015, the tower is open to hikers! Lucky for us, because when the weather is nice, the view from the top is unforgettable.
