Dix Mountain and Hough Peak

If you're ready for some of the more challenging hikes in the Adirondacks, the Dix Mountain Wilderness offers some steep but very rewarding treks. Dix Mountain, the sixth highest peak in the Adirondacks, lies at the area's heart and four additional High Peaks - Hough, South Dix, East Dix, and Macomb - surround.
Kane Mountain | Pure Adirondacks

Kane Mountain

Kane Mountain is a popular hiking destination with a fire tower observatory at the summit. This hike is located in the town of Caroga, NY and overlooks Canada Lake.
Loon Lake Mountain | Pure Adirondacks

Loon Lake Mountain

While Loon Lake Mountain is included in the fire tower challenge, the fire tower is currently closed and awaiting renovations. That said, there is still a considerable view from the summit that faces both south and east, and what can be seen from the peak’s rock face is beautiful and serene.

Snowy Mountain | Pure Adirondacks

Snowy Mountain

On a cool and crisp early November morning, we began our trek on the 3.8-mile trail up Snowy Mountain. At 3,899 ft., Snowy is a challenging climb. The first part of the hike is an enjoyable walk in the woods, much of it along (or in!) a pretty mountain stream.

Giant Mountain | 4,627ft

On a beautiful fall day in the midst of peak leaf season, the "Giant of the Valley" stood as an imposing figure above Keene Valley beckoning us to climb it, so climb it we did! Giant Mountain is the twelfth highest peak in the Adirondacks and it features some prominent rock slides on it's steep western face.
