Adirondack Hiking
While the Hurricane Mountain Fire Tower was closed for a number of years, efforts to restore it in recent years paid off and as of September 2015, the tower is open to hikers! Lucky for us, because when the weather is nice, the view from the top is unforgettable.

In 1916 the Wakely Mountain fire tower was rebuilt to be the highest in the Adirondacks, and as far as we know, this still holds true. The views from the tower are expansive and well worth the family-friendly hike up!

A relatively easy hike with one of the more picturesque fire towers and a panoramic view, Blue Mountain is a perfect fire tower climb for beginners and experienced hikers alike. The mountain is also just up the road from the excellent Adirondack Museum, which makes it appealing to families and others interested in soaking up some Adirondack knowledge.

Lyon Mountain is one of the toughest fire tower hikes, with an elevation higher than one of the official 46ers, it marks the highest point in Clinton County. Given its more northerly location than the other fire tower hikes, the tower provides you with unique views of Montreal’s skyline to the north and Lake Champlain and the Green Mountains to the east.

Further off the beaten track than the other Saranac 6ers, St. Regis Mountain is one of the areas hidden gems. With a near 360 degree view from the top, you can see all of the bodies of water that surround the St. Regis area, as well as the High Peaks off in the distance.
